The Trauma Center at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC) is offering two positions in our ACGME-accredited Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. This is a one year program available to surgery residents who have completed a General Surgery Residency. The IFMC is located in Northern Virginia, about 10 miles from Washington, DC.

Fellowship training is provided at Inova Fairfax Hospital, a 928-bed tertiary care hospital and the only Level I Trauma Center in Northern Virginia, seeing over 3,500 adult and pediatric trauma patients a year. The Emergency Department at IFMC is the third busiest in the country. The Division of Acute Care Surgery includes 14 full-time Acute Care Surgeons who provide care to a diverse population of surgical critical care, trauma, emergency & elective general surgery, and subspecialty surgery patients. The service is supported by our General Surgery program (seven categorical residents per year) and our team of trauma and ICU Advanced Practice Providers. The SCC faculty is dedicated to education, teaching residents, and students from our own program and outside institutions. IFMC is affiliated with the University of Virginia.

Fellows are based in the 24-bed Surgical and Trauma ICU, where they gain exposure to the critical care management of a wide array of patients including trauma and general surgery, pediatric, cardiovascular, thoracic, vascular, (kidney) transplant, and plastic surgery patients. SCC fellows additionally take overnight Acute Care Surgery call together with attending faculty. ICU electives are available in the Cardiac ICU including ECMO experience, Pediatric ICU, and Neuroscience ICU, in addition to a pre-hospital rotation and a spine access elective.
