Acute Care Surgery Fellowship

The Division of Acute Care Surgery at Northwestern Medicine is pleased to announce a new 12-month, non-ACGME second-year fellowship opportunity designed for surgeons seeking advanced training in trauma and emergency general surgery. Applicants must be board-certified in general surgery, have completed an ACGME-accredited surgical critical care fellowship, and be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois.

Fellows will gain extensive, high-acuity experience as an integral member of our busy Acute Care Surgery service at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The fellowship offers robust exposure to emergency general surgery and trauma care within a high-volume, academically rich environment at a Level 1 Trauma center. Fellows will be credentialed as Clinical Instructors of Surgery, and will function as junior attendings within the Division.

This position is ideal for individuals pursuing advanced operative proficiency, clinical leadership development, and preparation for careers in academic acute care surgery. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in research projects and education of the general surgery residents and surgical critical care fellows. This one-year program will commence August 1, 2026.
