Connect with EAST Members in this Facebook group dedicated to the discussion of challenging but de-identified trauma resuscitation and operative cases, surgical critical care management, and critical review of literature to forward patient care and education across all levels of training and institutions.

The EAST Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Collaboration Group hosted via Facebook is open to EAST members in good standing.  All participating in the group have agreed to the Terms of Use and adhere to EAST's Facebook Groups Copyright Policy (listed below).   

To join the group you will be required to provide your full name and EAST member ID and confirm that you have read and agree to the Terms of Use. Join requests where this information is not provided or completed will not be approved. To obtain your member ID, sign in to your member profile.

EAST FACEBOOK GROUPS TERMS OF USE
These EAST Facebook Groups Terms of Use (“Terms”) are between you and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (“EAST,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). EAST is a Tennessee nonprofit corporation headquartered and licensed to do business in Illinois and exempt from federal income tax pursuant to Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Among other things, EAST is organized to furnish leadership and to foster advances in the surgery of trauma and to afford a forum for the exchange of knowledge pertaining to injury control, research, practice, and training in prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injury. 

In furtherance of our purpose, EAST hosts a Facebook group, the EAST Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Collaboration Group, for our members, and may from time to time, host other Facebook groups dedicated to subjects in the field of trauma surgery (each an “EAST Group”). These Terms, together with any documents these Terms expressly incorporate by reference, govern your access to and use of the EAST Groups. 

By submitting your request to join the EAST Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Collaboration Group, you are accepting these Terms. 

By executing these Terms, you agree to the following:
1. EAST Rules. You agree to abide by the following rules and guidelines at all times in connection with your access and use of an EAST Group: 

  • You are solely responsible for your posts, including for determining whether your posts comply with your licensure and applicable law.
  • Your posts must be non-commercial, educational in nature, and related to the applicable EAST Group’s topic.
  • Your posts must not be defamatory, offensive, threatening, or include illegal materials.
  • Your posts should focus on the content of posts, not the people making them. Avoid making others feel unwelcome.
  • You may not impersonate any person or entity, including EAST and EAST’s personnel, or misrepresent an affiliation with any person or entity.
  • You may not intentionally or unintentionally violate or encourage or assist anyone else to violate any local, state, or federal ordinance, statute, law, or regulation.
  • Your posts must not violate another person’s privacy rights. Without limiting the foregoing, you may not disclose protected health information or others’ personally identifiable information, nor may your posts violate HIPAA.
  • You may not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, you represent and warrant that you own the copyright with respect to such material, or you received permission from the copyright owner. Your access to the EAST Groups may be terminated if you repeatedly infringe others’ copyrights or other intellectual property rights.   • You may not post information or other material that violate any trademark, trade secret, intellectual property right, or any right, of whatever nature, of anyone. You may not post materials that you do not have a right to post under law or as a result of a contractual or fiduciary relationship, including as a result of a nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement.
  • The exchange of non-public, competitively sensitive information on pricing, strategic plans, profit margins, market shares, market allocations, and related subjects, are prohibited. Your posts must not encourage of facilitate individuals to agree, either expressly or implicitly, to fix prices, boycott another’s business, or engage in conduct that illegally restricts free trade.

2. Facebook Terms. You acknowledge Facebook maintains terms and conditions applicable to all Facebook users, including you. You represent and warrant that your access and use of the EAST Groups will comply with Facebook’s Terms of Service and applicable Facebook policies.

3. Acceptance to EAST Groups. Only individuals who are EAST members in good standing the EAST Membership Dues & Standing Policy are eligible to join the EAST Groups. If you cease being an EAST member, your permission to access and use the EAST Groups will terminate. In addition, EAST reserves the right to exclude you from an EAST Group at any time for any reason, or no reason.

4. Use of the EAST Groups is at Your Own Risk. You understand and agree that your access and use of the EAST Groups is at your sole risk. EAST is not responsible for any content posted to the EAST Groups, nor does EAST endorse any opinions expressed by other users. EAST is not responsible for monitoring the EAST Groups, nor does it undertake editorial control of postings. EAST may edit or remove material in its sole discretion, but it is not obligated to do so. You are solely responsible for investigating, assessing, and determining the quality of the materials available on the EAST Groups and how and whether to use such materials. Nothing in these Terms should be construed as a delegation of your or any other user’s professional functions, activities, or services. You are solely responsible for the consequences of using or relying on any materials found on the EAST Groups. EAST reserves the right to terminate an EAST Group at any time, in its discretion.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties. Access to the EAST Groups is provided on an “as is,” “as available” basis, without warranties to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. EAST disclaims all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement and all warranties arising from course of dealing, usage, or trade practice. Without limiting the foregoing, by hosting the EAST Groups, EAST is not engaging in the practice of medicine, and EAST makes no representation or warranty of any kind the EAST Groups will meet your or any other person’s requirements or expectations; operate without interruption; or be secure, accurate, consistent, complete or error-free. This section does not affect any warranties that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

6. Amendments. We may amend these Terms at any time without prior notice, including by posting amended terms of use to our Facebook page. Use of the EAST Groups following any such amendment constitutes your agreement to follow and be bound by the amended terms.

7. Miscellaneous. Your Membership Agreement with EAST is expressly incorporated into these Terms by reference. A breach of these Terms is a breach of the Membership Agreement. Without limiting the foregoing, you agree EAST is entitled to all of the rights and remedies afforded to it under the Membership Agreement, and EAST may discipline you as provided in the Membership Agreement, and EAST’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Code of Conduct, and other policies, rules, and procedures.

These Terms take effect when you submit your request to join the Group. By clicking the join request, you acknowledge that you have read and understand these Terms and agree to be bound by them.

EAST FACEBOOK GROUPS COPYRIGHT POLICY
Reporting Claims of Copyright Infringement
EAST takes claims of copyright infringement seriously. If you believe any materials accessible on the EAST Facebook group, the Trauma Surgery Collaboration Group, or any other Facebook group EAST may host from time to time (each an “EAST Group”) infringe your copyright, you may consider reporting the infringement directly to Facebook. 

In addition, you may request removal of those materials from the EAST Groups by submitting written notification to EAST’s copyright agent designated below. In accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512 (“DMCA”), the written notice (the “DMCA Notice”) must include substantially the following: 

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Your contact information (full name, mailing address, email address, and phone number).
  • Identification of the copyrighted material that you claim has been infringed.
  • Identification of the material from the EAST Groups that you claim infringes your copyright in a sufficiently precise manner to allow us to locate that material.
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in the DMCA Notice is accurate.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

If you fail to comply with all of the requirements of Section 512(c)(3) of the DMCA, your DMCA Notice may not be effective. Please be aware that if you knowingly misrepresent that material or activity on the EAST Groups is infringing your copyright, you may be held liable for damages (including costs and attorneys’ fees) under Section 512(f) of the DMCA.

Counter Notification Procedures
If you believe material you posted to an EAST Group was removed or access to it was disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter notification to EAST (a “Counter Notice”) by submitting written notification to our copyright agent designated above. Pursuant to the DMCA, the Counter Notice must include: 

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Your contact information (full name, mailing address, email address, and phone number).
  • Identification of the material that has been removed or to which access has been disabled, and the location at which the material appeared before it was removed or disabled.
  • A statement under perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material identified above was removed or disabled as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled.
  • A statement that you will consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the district in which your address is located (or if you reside outside of the United States for any judicial district in which the EAST Groups are found) and that you will accept service from the person (or an agent of that person) who provided EAST with the complaint at issue.

The DMCA allows us to restore the removed content if the party filing the original DMCA Notice does not file a court action against you within ten business days of receiving the copy of your Counter Notice.

Please be aware that if you knowingly materially misrepresent that material or activity on the EAST Groups was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may be held liable for damages (including costs and attorneys’ fees) under Section 512(f) of the DMCA.

Repeat Infringers.
It is EAST’s policy in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion to terminate access to the EAST Groups for users who may be repeat infringers of the copyrights of others.
