Advocate Christ Medical Center Acute Care Surgeon

Advocate Health is seeking an additional acute care surgeon to join an eight-person group at Advocate Christ Medical Center (ACMC) a designated Level I trauma center for the state of Illinois and a major regional referral center for complex surgical care.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a fellowship-trained, board certified or board eligible acute care surgeon. The selected individual must possess superior skills in the care of acutely injured and critically ill surgical patients along with the ability to function collaboratively in a team environment.

Advocate Christ Medical Center is a leading community based academic medical center located just outside of Chicago in Oak Lawn, Illinois. ACMC is a major teaching affiliate of several Chicago area medical schools and operates freestanding residency programs in Emergency Medicine and General Surgery. In addition to residents and medical students, the Acute Care Surgery service is supported by ten Advanced Practice Nurses, two Medical Assistants, and a Trauma Nurse Coordinator.

As a regional Level I trauma center serving Chicago’s Southside, Southern Cook County, and Lake County, Indiana, the medical center sees approximately 4000 trauma patients per year with 30% penetrating trauma. The Acute Care Surgery service currently covers 50% of the emergency general surgery call schedule at ACMC with a plan for continued growth and expansion of this coverage. Over 1000 operative cases are expected to be performed by the Acute Care Surgery service this year.

The position will involve all aspects of evaluation and clinical care of trauma and emergency general surgery patients with 3 to 4 “in house” trauma/ACS calls per month anticipated. Other responsibilities will include critical care coverage for a twenty-bed closed Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit and teaching of medical students, surgery residents, emergency medicine residents, and critical care fellows. There are also opportunities for clinical research. Competitive salary and benefits are offered.
