Acute Care Surgery

Ochsner Health is seeking dynamic candidates to expand our Acute Care Surgery and SICU section to include Trauma. We plan to apply for ACS Trauma verification in 2025. Our five surgeon group plans to expand to ten as we incorporate Trauma into a busy acute care surgery and surgical critical care practice. Successful candidates will have completed or will be currently enrolled in a surgical critical care fellowship. A passion for medical student and resident education is essential. Research participation is strongly desired.

Ochsner is the largest provider of surgical services in the Gulf South. The new Trauma Center will be located at our main campus on the outskirts of New Orleans. The Ochsner Transfer Center receives 11,000 annual requests that will increase as we offer Trauma services. The SICU is a 32-bed unit that is co-managed with Anesthesia critical care. Additional Cardiovascular and Trauma ICUs will be added next year. The average daily census on the Acute Care Surgery service is twenty-six and the group performs over 2,000 operations per year. Ochsner graduates seven categorical residents per year from our surgical residency
