Grady Health System is seeking a visionary and mission-driven Senior Vice President & Chief of Surgery to lead one of the most vital surgical services in the country. As Chief of Surgery, you will lead with clarity, compassion, and courage — advancing trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care while guiding faculty, elevating education, and empowering innovation.
In partnership with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine, you’ll champion Grady’s tripartite mission: exceptional patient care, transformative education, and groundbreaking research.
Your Leadership Will Include:
1. Strategic Leadership & Vision
Set the direction for surgical services in alignment with Grady’s mission, vision, and values.
Collaborate with executive leaders to grow surgical programs and improve access to lifesaving care.
2. Clinical Excellence
Oversee the delivery of safe, high-quality, and evidence-based surgical care.
Lead initiatives that reduce complications, streamline care, and improve outcomes across all surgical settings.
3. Academic Mentorship & Education
Foster a culture of continuous learning and clinical curiosity.
Mentor the next generation of surgeons — faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students — with an emphasis on inclusive leadership and academic growth.
4. Research & Innovation
Champion research that translates into real-world impact.
Promote funding, publications, and surgical innovations that advance the field and improve care.
5. Faculty Development & Culture
Build and sustain a diverse, high-performing surgical faculty.
Cultivate an inclusive, supportive, and excellence-driven departmental culture.
6. Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
Lead efforts to improve surgical quality and patient safety through data-driven strategies.
Partner with hospital leadership to elevate system-wide standards of care.
7. Community & Institutional Engagement
Represent Grady across local, academic, and public health platforms.
Serve as an advocate for patients, providers, and the advancement of surgical equity.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
• MD or DO from an accredited institution
• Completion of ACGME-accredited surgical residency and surgical critical care fellowship
• Board certification in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
• Eligible for medical licensure in Georgia
• 10+ years of progressive leadership in academic or complex health system settings
• Track record in clinical excellence, faculty development, and system improvement
• Research and publication experience preferred
