The EAST Multicenter Trial Junior Investigator Award gave me the opportunity to conduct a retrospective study with 41 centers to determine if chest tubes and pigtail catheters are equally effective for pediatric hemothorax. This work – both the data and the lessons I learned – will form the basis for a future prospective multicenter randomized trial that has already received institutional support.
With this research background, I will be able to conduct future studies to improve the care of pediatric trauma patients.
