The University of Missouri offers a one year program in Surgical Critical Care and a two year program in Acute Care Surgery. The Frank L. Mitchell Jr. MD ACS Level 1 Trauma Center serves a large mostly rural population. We provide burn and thermal injury care for Mid Missouri in addition to a very broad based Acute Care Service line clinical practice of Surgical Critical Care, Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery and Elective General Surgery. The program's last RRC site visit resulted in continued full accreditation with no citations.

Research opportunities

Clinical and basic science research projects are available for interested fellows. We are a member of the LITES Network and are participating in the CAVLIER study. Additional research interests and opportunities include: surgical education, Mastery Learning applications, IT applications in the SICU, rural trauma care delivery, surgical health policy advocacy, and more.
