Hartford Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for the University of Connecticut, is offering a two-year, AAST-accredited Acute Care Surgery Fellowship.

Hartford hospital is a 800 bed Level 1 academic/tertiary care medical center with around 2000 trauma admissions yearly. We perform over 30,000 operative procedures, have an average of 100,000 ED visits and over 3000 surgical ICU admissions per year. Hartford Hospital has a 12 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, an 18 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, and an 18 bed Neurosience Intensive Care Unit.

The Acute Care Surgery Fellowship consists of 12 months of Surgical Critical Care and 12 months divided among the following; Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgey and Orthopedics.

During the Surgical Critical Care Year, the ACS Fellow rotates for 6 months in the Trauma/General Surgery ICU and will spend the remainder of the year rotating through the Neuroscience ICU, the Cardiothoracic ICU, the Pediatric ICU at Connecticut Children's Hospital, and on the Palliative Care Service at Hartford Hospital.

Candidates should have completed the General Surgery Residency Training or in the process of completion when applying.

If applying for the ACS portion only then candidate should have completed an ACGME-Accredited Critical Care Surgery Fellowship

Research opportunities

Several opportunities for clinical and outcomes research exist and the ACS fellow will be expected to complete at least one research project during their training.
