Gallbladder Disease in Pregnancy2018

Type: New Practice Management Guideline (PMG)
Category: Emergency General Surgery
Committee Liaison: Asanthi M. Ratnasekera, DO, FACS

Team leader(s)

Gallstone disease in more common during pregnancy but still has a low incidence overall (0.2%).Symptoms can come from biliary colic, acute cholecystitis, cholangitis and gallstone pancreatitis. Much of the literature is unclear and based on older data with respect to need for surgery and optimal timing for these conditions. We are striving to make guidelines for the management of various presentations of gallbladder disease during pregnancy and address the timing of surgery.
