Type: Update Evidence Based Review (EBR)
Existing PMG/EBR: Helmet Efficacy to Reduce Head Injury and Mortality in Motorcycle Crashes
Category: Injury Prevention
Committee Liaison: Amanda Teichman, MD, FACS

Team leader(s)

Statement:
Injuries sustained during motorcycle crashed continue to be a major source of morbidity and mortality, presenting a significant burden to the healthcare system and trauma systems specifically. Many states continue to have either partial or no helmet laws in place. The purpose of this update is to bring the previous EBR in line with GRADE methodology, which is the newly accepted standard for practice management guidelines and evidence based reviews, in addition to re-examining new data that has been published since the previous review in 2010.
